Ahead of his first fight of 2023, George Kambosos is preparing for Maxi Hughes, who will provide the opposition on July 22 in a 12-round IBF world title eliminator in the U.S.
In 2022, Kambosos lost two fights against Haney by unanimous decision, both of which took place at home within a four-month period. The first loss resulted in Haney winning the WBC belt and cost Kambosos the three lightweight titles he had taken from Teofimo Lopez the previous year. In the rematch, Kambosos was unable to oust Haney of the titles, forcing the Australian to seek a another path. Kambosos isn't overly impressed with Hughes' prior competition, despite the 30-year-old Australian's expectation that Hughes will be a difficult test. Even more audaciously, he predicted how the combat would proceed on July 22.
