Twenty-four men's national teams from Africa will play in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, which is due to be held in Côte d'Ivoire from 13 January to 11 February 2024.
Africa Cup of Nations brief history
The inaugural AFCON was held in 1957, and the tournament has been held regularly since then. Originally, the competition was known as the "African Nations Cup."
The number of participating teams has increased over the years. In 2017, the tournament expanded to 24 teams, providing more nations with the opportunity to compete.
AFCON most successful teams
Egypt has historically been the most successful team in AFCON history. They have won the tournament 7 times, with their victories including the early editions in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998, 2006, and 2010.
Cameroon has also been a powerhouse competing in Africa Cup of Nations. They have won the AFCON title 5 times, with victories in 1984, 1988, 2000, 2002 and 2017.
Senegal is the current champions and one of the strongest teams. They will try to defend their title. Senegal is a also frontrunner to win AFCON 2024 due to their previous success.

With a
beIN Sports subscription, viewers in many English-speaking nations, including the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, will be able to watch the 2024 AFCON. Even though the CAF and beIN Sports had already ended their $415 million, 12-year contract in September, they reopened negotiations and reached a new understanding in only two months. The agreement gives beIN the broadcast rights to all international and club football competitions held by the CAF, including the CAF Champions League and the African Cup of Nations.
