European, South American and other domestic football leagues will come to a halt for around six weeks as 32 countries compete to win the biggest prize in football. The tournament begins on November 20 and lasts until the final on December 18. England will open their 2022 World Cup campaign against Group B opponents Iran on November 21 at 1pm UK time. The next match against team USA is on November 25 at 7pm UK time. Their final game in the group B is against Wales on November 29 at 7pm UK time. Gareth Southgate has an extremely talented team at his disposal and will be aiming to guide England to their first World Cup victory since 1966. From Harry Kane leading England to Gareth Bale leading Wales’ charge to Christian Pulisic primed to push the USA towards the knockout rounds and Iran’s hopes pinned on prolific forward duo Azmoun and Taremi, this is going to be a tough group to call. If they get through their group, England would face one of hosts Qatar, Netherlands, Ecuador or Senegal in the last 16.
Team USA will make their World Cup debut against Wales on November 21 (2 pm ET/11 am PT) before taking on England four days later (2 pm ET/11 am PT). They'll close out the group stage against Iran on November 29 (2 pm ET/11 am PT). Four years removed from missing out on the World Cup in Russia, the U.S. national team returns to the global stage with an unprecedented glut of young stars playing in Europe’s top leagues. With the United States co-hosting the 2026 tournament, the trip to Qatar represents a crucial inflection point for the program.
For Socceroos World cup D kicks off November 22, when they meet France. The next Australian opponent is Tunisia on November 26. The last game in the group B for The Socceroos is against Denmark on December 1. The Socceroos beat Peru in a penalty shootout to clinch a ticket to Qatar, having first had to overcome the United Arab Emirates in an earlier playoff. Remarkably, the group will see a repeat for three teams who faced each other at the same stage of Russia 2018: France, Denmark and Australia were all part of Group C in that tournament, with France and Denmark going through and Australia finishing last. The Socceroos have been regulars at the World Cup since the turn of the century, advancing to the competition proper on five consecutive occasions.
