This will be the first Tour de France start in Italy and the 26th that’s taken place abroad with also first finale in Nice. Due to the Olympic taking place in Paris, the race will not finish in Paris for the first time.
This year race will include two time trials - 25 and 34 = 59km in total, the second of them taking place on the final Monaco - Nice stage.
The Tour 2024 will visit four countries this year: Italy, San Marino, Monaco and France.
The number of stages by profile this year: 8 flat, 4 hilly, 7 mountain (with 4 summit finishes at Saint-Lary-Soulan Pla dAdet, Plateau de Beille, Isola 2000, Col de la Couillole), 2 time trials.
176 riders will line up at the start of the Tour, divided into 22 teams of 8 riders each.
The highest point that will cross riders on Tour 2024 will be of the summit of the Bonette pass in the Alps at 2802 meters, the highest tarmac road in France. The riders will gain total of 52 230 vertical meters during the 2024 Tour de France.
A total of 2,3 million euros will be awarded to the teams and riders including € 500,000 to the final winner of the overall individual classification.

Favorites to win the yellow jersey:
Tadej Pogačar: The winner of back-to-back Tours in 2020 and 2021. He hasn’t raced at all since winning the Giro d Italia by 10 minutes. Pogačar has enjoyed a perfect season so far, winning several major races while staying healthy and injury-free along the way. To make matters worse for the competition, after Tour de Suisse, it looks as Pogačar will be starting the race with the Tour’s strongest team. Adam Yates and João Almeida put impressive performance in Switzerland, winning two stages a-piece and finishing first and second overall in General Classification.
Primož Roglič: Roglič has come a long way since crashing out of the Tour of Basque Country–which he was leading at the time. Of the three Tour contenders that went down in the incident, Roglič fared the best in terms of his injuries. At the Critérium du Dauphiné Roglič won two stages and the General Classification.
Jonas Vingegaard: The Tour’s two-time defending champion looked pretty invincible at the start of the season, winning three of four stages and the overall at the O Gran Camiño stage race in February, and then two stages and the overall at Tirreno-Adriatico in March. But then came the crash at the Tour of the Basque Country, where Vingegaard was one of the worst victims. in crash he has broken collarbone and a cracked few ribs. He also suffered a pulmonary contusion and a collapsed lung. He stayed in the hospital for twelve days before being allowed to return home. Visma-Lease a Bike lost two more members of its Tour de France team to a crash at the end of Stage 5 at the Dauphiné, and American Sepp Kuss–one who abandoned the Dauphiné due to sickness
Remco Evenepoel: Remco was another victim of the crash at the Tour of the Basque Country. He broke his right clavicle and scapula in Spain and had surgery a few days later in Belgium to address the broken collarbone. Remco made his return to racing at the recent Critérium du Dauphiné, and heading into the race he was also clear that his expectations were modest. He crushed everyone on 34.4km individual time trial, a win that earned him the yellow jersey as the Dauphiné’s overall leader. Evenepoel held tough in the mountains and despite falling from first to seventh by the end of the race, there were some encouraging signs for the rider hoping to become the first Belgian to win the Tour de France since 1976.
Top competitors: Tadej Pogačar, Jonas Vingegaard, Jasper Philipsen, Mathieu Van Der Poel, Mads Pedersen, Remco Evenepoel, Adam Yates, Primož Roglič, Aleksandr Vlasov, Juan Ayuso, Carlos Rodríguez
Last race winners: Jonas Vingegaard (2023), Jonas Vingegaard (2022), Tadej Pogačar (2021), Tadej Pogačar (2020), Egan Bernal (2019), Geraint Thomas (2018), Chris Froome (2017), Chris Froome (2016), Chris Froome (2015), Vincenzo Nibali (2014)
